Skill Labs are coming to VRescue

With the Skill Labs, a new form of training is making its way into VRescue.

We’re proud to announce that Skill-Labs are now available in VRescue as an additional learning option. This new feature introduces a completely fresh teaching and learning approach that significantly expands and refines our existing offerings.

To clarify the function and importance of Skill-Labs for medical emergency training in general and VRescue in particular we’ve put together a brief FAQ.

What Are Skill-Labs?

In the medical field, Skill-Labs (or Skills-Labs) typically refer to dedicated practice spaces where specific skills can be trained with precision and safety. A classic example in traditional training is practicing intubation on a specialized mannequin.

Since VRescue is a virtual reality product, our Skill-Lab is a fully virtual practice environment for intensive emergency medical training. This eliminates the usual hurdles, such as the need for expensive, specialized equipment. It also offers far greater flexibility, as multiple labs can be simulated within a single application – something that would normally require a wide range of different training devices.

How Do Skill-Labs Differ from Existing Content?

So far, our primary focus has been on comprehensive procedure training, where users work through an extensive checklist based on the ABCDE protocol. This involves mastering and executing many individual steps in the correct order.

Skill-Labs, on the other hand, focus on just a few – or even a single – step, rather than a full sequence of actions. However, that step is covered in much greater depth and evaluated at the end of each session based on various criteria.

Do Skill-Labs Replace the Existing Procedure Training?

No. Skill-Labs are designed to complement VRescue’s existing training content. Classic procedure training remains a core pillar of our application, and we will continue to implement improvements and new content in the future.

Skill-Labs provide an additional training approach, allowing for highly focused skill development – including skills not yet fully integrated into procedure training.

Which Skill-Labs Are Available in VRescue at Launch?

The first Skill-Lab focuses on triage training for mass casualty incidents (MCI). Users must categorize patients as quickly and accurately as possible into SK I (Red), SK II (Yellow), and SK III (Green) according to the PRIOR algorithm. If necessary, immediate life-saving measures must also be taken.
