VRescue

An overview of all the beta features

Note: This article refers to the beta version of VRescue, which has been rolled out since the beginning of March 2025. This information may therefore be outdated in the future when further functions have been integrated into the simulation.

Our emergency medical VR simulation VRescue has recently become available as a beta version. We have already provided an overview of the range of functions that interested customers can look forward to on various social media channels. We would like to take this opportunity to once again publish a comprehensive list of all current applications and features here on our website. Read on now to find out what medical and non-medical functions you can expect from our product!

Medical Measures

I. ABCDE scheme

The ABCDE scheme and its modified forms, the xABCDE scheme and cABCDE scheme, form the backbone of the initial assessment in German emergency services. With these steps, possible injuries or illnesses and their criticality can be determined quickly and in a structured manner. The individual points include

A - Airway

B - Breathing

C - Circulation

D - Disability

E - Exposure/Environment

These basic steps in the initial assessment of emergency patients are all integrated into VRescue. This means that the most elementary measures at the start of an emergency examination are covered in a realistic and comprehensive manner. Furthermore, all these points can be tracked in real time using an integrated checklist system so that the structure is maintained at all times in the simulation and the procedure can be rehearsed step by step.

More information on the checklist system can be found below in section 2.

II. Vital Signs

We recently took a closer look at our collaboration with Kitware Inc. and their Pulse Physiology Engine in another blog post. In a nutshell, the Pulse Physiology Engine is a tool that enables realistic calculation of human vital signs in real time and is tailored to virtual simulations like ours based on meticulous research.

Thanks to Pulse, all values that are crucial in an emergency scenario can be precisely displayed in VRescue. This ranges from respiratory rate and blood pressure to oxygen saturation in the blood. Users can therefore be assured at all times that the condition of virtual patients and their reactions to treatment measures are always depicted realistically and accurately.

III. First Aid

In addition to recording the patient's condition, practicing first aid and treatment measures is of course also essential in a training simulation. The current version of VRescue therefore also includes some basic treatment and prevention measures.

These measures currently include, for example, the administration of oxygen using a mask to stabilize blood oxygen levels, the application of tourniquets to stop severe bleeding or the application of a rescue blanket to prevent hypothermia in patients.

Operation, Administration and Provision

I. Checklist system

As briefly mentioned above, VRescue comes with a checklist function that can be reviewed both inside and outside the application and records the progress of the examination and treatment of patients.

In the current version, this checklist comes with some ready-made scenarios, such as all the steps of the ABCDE scheme. However, it is of course important to ensure flexibility, especially in a training environment. Therefore, all contents and their order are freely customizable.

II. Administration software

In order to manage and customize elements such as the checklist, VRescue comes with a web app that allows instructors to make settings conveniently, easily and from anywhere. These not only affect the checklist, but can also be used to manage course participants or to design and evaluate exam scenarios.

III. Controller-free control

VRescue works one hundred percent with hand tracking. This means that no controllers or other input devices are required for use. All elements in VRescue can be operated with bare hands.

This not only provides a more natural feel, but also ensures that practiced hand movements feel as lifelike as possible. This method also reduces the risk of errors, the need for consumables such as batteries, does not waste time with batteries that run out at the wrong moment and generally reduces the number of parts and adjustments required for operation.

Planned Features

VRescue already covers a wide range of functions that meet the needs of rescue service schools and other emergency medicine training institutes.

However, as a SaaS product, VRescue is in a constant state of development and improvement. You can therefore look forward to the following additional features in the foreseeable future:

  • More injury and illness patterns for patients

  • More treatment measures

  • More medical equipment and supplies

  • Greater variation for patients

  • Mobile app for user and software management

...and much more

Become part of the revolution

VRescue already has a long list of functions up its sleeve in the beta stage that will help to make training in rescue and emergency medicine faster, more efficient and more tangible.

We look forward to welcoming you to the VRescue team at any time. Send us an inquiry today using the form linked below and you could soon be part of this exciting journey into the future.
